Chartered Healthcare Consultant® (ChHC®) Program

As of January 1, 2017 The Chartered Healthcare Consultant® (ChHC®) designation has been moved to the National Association of Health Underwriters. Although the program will not be continued for new students, those that earned their ChHC through the American College will continue to be honored and expected to renew their designation with NAHU every 24 months with approved Continuing Professional Credits (CPCs) in order to maintain it.
When NAHU acquired both the Registered Employee Benefits Consultant (REBC) and ChHC designations, NAHU paid careful consideration to the insurance professional’s needs in supporting clients. It became quickly apparent that not only key courses in the REBC program that worked towards the ChHC designation should remain, but that NAHU’s suite of certification programs were also key for overall knowledge and client service.

The new REBC now allows a combination of courses offered by NAHU and those that may have been completed through one of the approved American College programs to count towards designation requirements. REBC now includes NAHU’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act certification training as a core designation component. Students who are pursuing the REBC designation and have already completed the ChHC designation will receive reciprocity credit for ACA and Advanced Group benefits against REBC core requirements. Additionally, the ChHC designation individual market course counts as 1 of 3 required electives. Healthcare coverage is not only critical for maintaining good health, but is now mandated by law. It is what employers and individual consumers are thinking about and these courses together culminating in the REBC designation offer an in-depth, comprehensive approach to education on the issue.

As of January 1, 2016 current students have until June 30, 2017 to complete their REBC designation through the American College.

Starting January 2017 NAHU will take new enrollees. REBC has newly revised requirements and for those of you that have already been earning NAHU certifications, you may be closer to earning your REBC designation, than you think.

Earning the Registered Employee Benefits Consultant® (REBC®) designation elevates your credibility as a professional. The field of employee benefits continues to evolve rapidly. A year does not go by without new government regulations, new or modified coverages, and new techniques for controlling benefit costs. To best serve their clients, professionals need to have a current understanding of the provisions, advantages, and limitations associated with each type of benefit or program as a method for meeting economic security. The designation program analyzes group benefits with respect to the ACA environment, contract provisions, marketing, underwriting, rate making, plan design, cost containment, and alternative funding methods. The largest portion of this course is devoted to group medical expense plans that are a major concern to employers, as well as to employees. The remainder of course requirements include electives on topics serving various markets based on a broker’s client needs.
